Everything Chickens
If you have ever said to yourself "I would love to have chickens in my backyard" congratulations! Your journey has just begun. It was just a short time ago we were thinking the exact same thoughts as you are now. Although we thought keeping chickens was such a great idea, we really didn't know how it would possible. We live on 1/4 of an acre, have neighbors, had no idea what we were doing and didn't think that chickens in the suburbs would be able to live comfortably. We had so many questions and it seemed that the more we read and researched, the more confusing keeping chickens in our backyard became. I am here to tell you two things. One is that keeping chickens in your backyard is very possible and very simple. Secondly, as overwhelming and confusing as it may seem now, it is only as overwhelming and confusing as you make it. Raising chickens will take some work and effort on your part, but it is not difficult and you will be rewarded. We hope that through our journey we can encourage you to put aside any fears that you may have and take the plunge into backyard chicken keeping. We promise you it will all be worth it!

The Chicken Coop

Yay! I love your blog, looking forward to seeing what you add. When we moved from city life in Oregon to rural Idaho a few years ago, the first thing I wanted to do was get chickens. My folks gave us a book titled "ABC's of Poultry rasing"...which I'm pretty sure is from the 70's lol. We ended up being able to build our coop from free, reclaimed wood and bought our first set of chickens from a local highschool ag sale. It's def a learning experience : ) 2 years later and we now live on a trout farm and have 6 laying hens at the moment, plus 2 black copper marans chicks that we just got a few weeks ago. They are def pets. I love having chickens, it's one of the best parts of living in the country. Kudos to you and your backyard coop!
