Hello Friend! Thank you for stopping by and visiting us! Please stay awhile and look around. This is the story of our journey to become more self sufficient, by attempting to transform our 1/4 acre of land into a backyard suburban farm and homestead. With two small children, twelve chickens, two ducks a few handfuls of quail, vegetable and herb gardens, fruit bushes and trees, we always have something going on around here! Our goal from the beginning has always been to get back to basics, simplify life, reconnect with the earth and each other and above all show people that no matter how small their backyard or space, everyone is able to become more self sufficient and experience the joys of growing and creating. Our hopes are to share with you the knowledge that we acquire along the way and that we make a difference, however small in the lives of others!

I am an avid gardener who thoroughly enjoys growing perennials, ornamental grasses, and raised vegetable beds. In my free time I can be found tinkering out in the garage.
The last time I can remember keeping poultry was when I was a kid, on my fathers property. After Emily's suggestion to add chickens to our family, I agreed and took it the extra step. Along with our two children, all fifteen of our hens, two Cayuga ducks and our dogs, we keep and breed various types of quail including Chinese painted (Button quail), Coturnix and Snowflake Bobwhites. Through much trial and error, I have built many useful fixtures and helpful items around our 1/3 acre urban homestead including our chicken coop and run, quail habitats and duck pond.
During the day I own and operate a heating and air conditioning company located in Antioch, IL and in my spare time I help people with many handyman type tasks. My goal for the future is to be able to start a non for profit in which I can help less fortunate families start and maintain their own -
"Our Little Coop" Cheers!

Good Afternoon. A client of mine introduced me to your website. It's very informative and looks very fun. She noted that our office was not listed as a Veterinarian in Virginia that sees chickens, geese, ducks, quail, and any other pet bird. Here's the information if we can be added to the list:

We will gladly add you! Thank you for informing us and for all that you do.
DeleteI am new to your blog, but I feel like I'm visiting a familiar, homey place. I think I'll take a walk around and, if you don't mind, I'd like one of those inside out pies and a mug of caramel apple cider?
ReplyDeletethank you! :))
